Poplar Lakes, Terraces design

The following images are part of my last studio assignment. The aim of the design was to integrate people and leisure into a stormwater device. This lake was part of a previous design and the water it holds is intended to be clean when it reaches this point, being filtered upstream.

Riverbanks of the region and nation were an influence as both the they and the lake must deal with fluctuating levels. The aim was to make a familiar experience to encourage people down to the water.

Terraces with a pattern inspired by the kauri rafts common in the nearby rivers, lead down to the shallow lake edge, and wetlands. A boardwalk juts out like so many abandoned jetties, lone posts march on where it could have been. Seats like boat pulled up from the water dot the terraces and add colour, providing a cue that this place is for recreation. The result is below.

Vue Experiments

Recently we have been experimenting with Vue in our Film Cad, this is an early experiment with the software.

1st Year Photoshop Assignment

In this assignment we were asked to make three posters, each representing our physical, phycological and spiritual sides, and each using the same picture of ourselves. I set up a fake desk and worked along a theme where I was a subject in an experimental programme. This was the result.

Whites Bush Jigger

Entering Glenbrook

This is what is known as a bush jigger. They were converted from trucks and cars by a sawmill company for use on a bush tramway (railways) as transport to the site of the logging. These trams were often used to bring the logs from the bush and log hauler to the sawmill and could be many kilometers long. The track was often of a minimal standard to save on costs and was sometimes even laid along a stream bed. Many of these lines had short lives, feeding ‘main’ lines.

This example was converted from a Whites brand truck and has been recently resotred. It can be seen at the Bush Tramway Club at Pukemiro near Huntly. It’s steering wheel operates the brake! It is seen here at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway in February, where it was taking rides.

The Lost Thing

I have always liked Shaun Tans book ‘The Lost Thing’, with its excellent art and good story. The world he has created is intricate and fascinating. I like the details like the small lights, signs and valves, and especially the arrows.

There is also a short film here: http://www.thelostthing.com/

SH 20

The other day I want for a cycle and took some pictures of the end of SH 20 and the new extension. Here is a best of.
